About Friends & Family of South Loop School

Friends and Family of South Loop School, Inc, is a charitable 501(c)(3) Corporation whose sole mission is to conduct fund raising activities on behalf of South Loop Elementary School in order to provide enhanced educational resources for all South Loop School students. Friends & Family is a volunteer organization and has no paid employees, so that 100% of contributions benefit South Loop Elementary School.

Our fundraising efforts play a key role in the success of our students as the resources decline every year. With the contributions from parents, friends, and local business owners, we are able to provide critically needed support for our students.

Facts about Friends & Family:

  • Incorporated in May 2005
  • Became 501c(3) (tax exempt) in October 2007
  • Fiscal year is May 1-April 30

Money raised through Friends and Family is used to fund resources that our students would otherwise have to do without because South Loop does not get discretionary funding from the Federal or State governments. In recent years, some of the resources we have provided are:

  • iPads and laptops that can be used by the entire student body
  • Upgrades to our internet and state of the art audio/visual equipment for the theater
  • Extracurricular activities including Family Fun Nights and the end of year carnival
  • Books, online subscriptions and reference materials
  • Lunch and recess monitors
  • Teacher professional development

The Friends Board works closely with school leadership to identify annual goals for fundraising and the key areas of support, outside of general operations. The Board oversees the collection and distribution of funds raised on behalf of South Loop Elementary School. Funds distributed must align with annual goals of Friends and Family.

Current members of the Board are listed below, but we are always interested in meeting interested parents. Please let us know if you’re interested in learning more.
